    These various archives were placed under the Academy of Athens as a result of the decision to establish a supreme intellectual institution among the aims of which was “the foremost national need to enlighten and guide public services, to study and regulate issues relating to our national language [……], to collect and study the customs and values, the dialects and the treasury of language, the proverbs, the myths and traditions, the folk music and poetry and generally, the life and folklore of the Greek people;  it should also forge new means of ensuring the safety and glory of the State, encourage and nourish the spiritual virtues of the nation, create and promote contemporary Greek scholarship; and in general, it should serve and promote the great moral and material interests of this land.”
