Born in Tsangarada of Pilion, Thessaly. Received her doctorate from the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Athens. (Her Thesis on “Modern Greek Metrication: Traditional Metres and Weights, 11th-20th Century”). Research fellow of the Hellenic Folklore Research Centre, Academy of Athens (from 1974). Director of the same Centre (from 1995 until today). She has contributed to the reorganization and modernisation of the Hellenic Folklore Research Centre of the Academy of Athens, and to collaboration with cultural associations and organizations in Greece and the Abroad.
Between 1990-1993 she was appointed a permanent member of the Academic Committee of the University of Thessaly, responsible for the university’s Departments of Education, as well as member of various other committees.
From 1993 until 2003 she taught Greek Folklore in the Department of Literature, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Athens. Vice-president of the Hellenic Folklore Society from 2001. Regular member of the Committee of the Academy of Ecclesiastical Arts of the Holy Synod, Church of Greece. Chairman of the Historical and Folklore Society of Thessaly. Member of Verein fur Volkskunde of Vienna from 1983. Member of the three-member permanent Committee of the Municipal Museum of Milees, Pilion. Chairman of the Museum of Greek Art for Children, Athens.
She has delivered numerous academic papers in conferences, as well as lectures and speeches. She has supervised research projects, organised conferences, exhibitions, in folklore museums and collections, published book reviews, articles in periodicals and newspapers, edited numerous publications of the Hellenic Folklore Research Centre and participated in radio and television broadcasts.
